'Our Promise' makes it easy to help

Published:

Founded in 1957, Our Promise: California is an easy way for state employees to make a difference in their communities by setting up automatic monthly donations to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit through pre-tax payroll deductions.

Campaign Chair Sabrina Watts-Jefferson and Vice-chair Angie Viloria said they hope the Caltrans commitment will resonate with those who need it most within Caltrans and our communities. There are thousands of organizations that benefit from Caltrans’ giving, from local Boys & Girls Clubs to organizations to assist seniors, the disabled, animal welfare groups and much, much more. In 2017, the Caltrans Our Promise Campaign contributed more than $24,000 just to the California Transportation Foundation, which provides scholarships to students planning a career in the transportation field, career development for transportation professionals, and financial support to those injured on the job and to the families of those who have died in the line of duty.

For 2018, Caltrans’ Our Promise’s theme was “Caltrans Cares” with the slogan “Join the Power of 5.” Simply put, if all 20,000 Caltrans workers donate $5 a month, through automatic payroll deduction, we could give $1.2 million to nonprofit organizations.
