California Walk and Bike Technical Advisory Committee

Overview

The California Walk and Bike Technical Advisory Committee (CWBTAC) provides strategic input and technical guidance to support achievement of the walk and bike safety objectives stated within the Caltrans Strategic Plan and to guide implementation of other key Caltrans documents, including the Statewide Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan: "Towards an Active California", Director's Policy 36, Director's Policy 37, and subsequent updates or successor documents.

CWBTAC members coordinate closely with multiple Caltrans divisions and programs, along with other partner agency staff, active transportation planners/engineers, and advocates across the state.

The CWBTAC charter (PDF) outlines the framework of the California Walk and Bike Technical Advisory Committee, as developed and approved by the members of CWBTAC.

History

In 2018, Caltrans created a new California Walk and Bike Technical Advisory Committee (CWBTAC) made up of external partners to provide regular strategic input and technical guidance on Caltrans’ complete streets and active transportation efforts. The new committee replaces the California Bicycle Advisory Committee, which was established in 1992 and provided input to Caltrans on bicycle facilities for several decades.
