Guidance Timeline

The schedule shown on this page supports the development of guidance for each of the 28 Proven Safety Countermeasures (PSCs) to be completed within two years. Guidance for each PSC will be comprised of components that are necessary for assisting practitioners in applying PSCs on state highways, such as location recommendations, guidelines, and maintenance. The intent of the PSC guidance is to create a tool that unifies all reference documentation for California PSCs in one place.

There will be four six-month periods comprised of seven PSCs teams developing guidance in parallel at any given time. Each PSC's guidance will be completed in six months, which consists of the formation of PSC groups, background research and literature review, guidance development, and reviews.

PSC Guidance Timeline

The PSCs have been sorted into four groups of seven, with six months allocated to the completion of each group. Each PSC guidance will undergo a district review, a third-party review by a third party within Caltrans Headquarters for quality assurance and control, and a legal review. The guidance is expected to be completed by June 2026.
