Caltrans is committed to working hand-in-hand with communities and partners to advance active transportation. Explore resources such as the Active Transportation Center, Caltrans Engagement Portal, and the California Walk and Bike Technical Advisory Committee, designed to foster collaboration and informed decision-making.

The ATRC provides resources, technical assistance, and training to transportation partners across California to increase the opportunity for the success of active transportation projects.

Funded by the California Transportation Commission (CTC) with implementation support from Caltrans, ATRC staff supports Active Transportation Program (ATP) applicants, ATP recipients, and others working to improve active transportation across California.

The California Walk and Bike Technical Advisory Committee (CWBTAC) is a multidisciplinary committee that coordinates closely with multiple Caltrans divisions and programs, along with other partner agency staff, active transportation planners/engineers, and advocates across the state to provide strategic input and technical guidance to support achievement of the walk and bike safety objectives stated within the Caltrans Strategic Plan and to guide implementation of other key Caltrans documents.

The U.S. Bicycle Route System (USBRS) is a national network of designated bicycle routes connecting urban and rural communities through signed roads and trails. Caltrans is the AASHTO-designated lead for the State of California.

Caltrans coordinates with Adventure Cycling Association, which provides technical assistance and resources, to support development and establishment of new USBRS routes in California.
