Hello, Caltrans team. I sincerely hope that you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy during this challenging time.

I also want to acknowledge the important work you are all performing to ensure Caltrans maintains a safe, efficient transportation system during a period when our state and fellow Californians need it most. It is a direct reflection of your professional diligence that critical infrastructure remains open to provide people with dependable access to medical facilities and essential goods and services.

Thank you.

Through social distancing, telecommuting, coordinating with contractors on project timelines or in countless other ways, I recognize the effort required to adjust your work procedures and life rhythms to keep the department operating efficiently.

We are meeting the challenges posed by the pandemic together and I am proud to be part of Caltrans’ team effort.

While Covid-19 is clearly the dominant issue now and perhaps for some time to come, I think it is uplifting for all of us to be reminded of how Caltrans workers are making a positive difference in a wide variety of ways. For example, 17 of our engineers recently – before the pandemic – volunteered to spend several weeks in Puerto Rico to help with the U.S. territory’s earthquake recovery efforts.

You can read about that, and many other Caltrans developments, in this latest edition of CT News. Enjoy it, take care and be well.
