FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Malibu ― The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces an immediate closure of one northbound lane on Pacific Coast Highway/State Route 1 (PCH/SR-1) just north of Big Rock Drive from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays while the city of Malibu completes emergency work to remove and replace a drainage pipe that was destroyed in the Palisades Fire.

The city of Malibu estimates the work will be completed by early June. Motorists who use the area must abide by the 25 mph speed limit through the work zone, plan for extra travel time and expect delays.

The section of PCH from Santa Monica to Malibu that reopened to the motoring public on May 23 is still an active work zone as Caltrans, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and various contractors and utility workers complete repairs and recovery work. It had been closed for five months following the Palisades Fire and winter storms that brought flooding and debris flows to the area.

Caltrans reminds the public that traffic fines can be doubled in a work zone. Drivers should use caution driving through the area and slow down for workers.
