Work Continues; Drive Safely
Los Angeles — The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces that State Route 1/Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) is open to all drivers through the cities of Los Angeles, Santa Monica and Malibu in time for the Memorial Day weekend.
Caltrans reminds the public that repairs will continue, and for the safety of repair crews and first responders, drivers should follow all safety rules of the road.
The following modifications and safety measures are in place. Drivers should expect major delays on PCH and allow extra time for travel.
· PCH will have up to two lanes each direction with lane shifts where repair work continues.
· Signals are activated from the California Incline through Topanga Canyon Boulevard and from Las Flores to Carbon Canyon roads. The flashing red signal at Big Rock Road will remain to help drivers turning left.
· There will be a 25-mile-per-hour speed limit between Temescal Canyon Road in Pacific Palisades and Carbon Beach Terrace in Malibu.
· There will only be one lane through the McClure Tunnel from westbound I-10 to northbound PCH.
· There is no parking or stopping allowed in the work zone. Please remember that there may be slow vehicles moving in and out of the lanes. Law enforcement will be citing motorists.
· On northbound PCH, the shoulder is closed near Tuna Canyon, Peña and Las Flores roads to allow Southern California Edison to underground power utilities for further resiliency.
· On southbound PCH, the right lane is subject to closure between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily for debris removal and repair work.
Work continues on PCH. Caltrans will be conducting slope repair just north of Big Rock Drive and just below the Getty Villa. Private contractors may be working to safely rebuild properties along PCH and debris hauling trucks will be entering PCH from Pacific Palisades.
Topanga Canyon Boulevard/State Route 27 is also open with one-way traffic control, but it will be closed from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. for continuing repair work.
Caltrans reminds the public that traffic fines can be doubled in an active work zone. Drivers should use caution driving through the area and should slow down for workers.
