Technical Freight and Project Integration
Our Office provides technical expertise for developing and implementing the Department’s priority freight projects and planning activities.
Key Roles:
Freight Project Implementation
We provide knowledge, tools, guidance, and support for the range of Caltrans activities associated with delivery and implementation of priority freight projects. This role includes helping to advance the innovative and sustainable characteristics of both our legacy freight projects and new, future concepts.
Freight Data & Performance Management
Our Office serves as the lead for freight data collection, acquisition, testing, consolidation, analysis, interpretation, sharing, and management. We develop and manage resources and tools to allow internal and external partners to leverage freight data for planning efforts and project implementation.
Zero-emission Freight Infrastructure
This role includes developing and implementing approaches to deploy medium and heavy duty zero-emission systems throughout the State. We coordinate with partner State agencies, regional organizations, and the private sector to advance our freight zero-emission infrastructure goals.
Interregional Freight Planning Management
We support Caltrans Districts and their partners by providing an interregional freight planning and implementation lens to complement their local and regional expertise. We foster inter-District coordination on interregional freight projects and planning efforts. We assist Districts in building and maintaining their public and private freight stakeholder network.
Interagency Freight Coordination
This role includes coordinating, developing, and implementing California freight activities in partnership with various State agencies such as CARB, GO-BIZ, CEC, CDFA, and CPUC. We coordinate with communities, private freight entities, local, regional, State, and national partners, and lead efforts to initiate and develop innovative freight projects to optimize system efficiencies.
