LOS ANGELES – Caltrans crews are keeping Topanga Canyon Boulevard/State Route 27 (SR-27) between Pacific Coast Highway and Grand View Drive closed due to impacts from Monday’s rainstorms as well as predicted rainstorms overnight Tuesday.
Given current impacts and a flood watch in effect through 6 a.m. Wednesday, this 3.6-mile stretch of SR-27 remains closed. Crews will reassess Wednesday morning based on road conditions and weather forecasts. Motorists should plan alternate routes for Wednesday’s commute.
One lane of SR-27 between PCH and Grand View is accessible for emergency vehicles.
The highway saw numerous debris flows and mudslides during Monday’s storms, which crews on Tuesday had started to clear. The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for the Los Angeles area Tuesday night, with peak rain timing expected between 6 p.m. Tuesday and 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Overnight Tuesday, NWS is predicting up to 1.5 inches of rain with peak rates of 0.25-0.50 inches per hour and expects potential for localized flooding, mudslides and debris flows.
Crews are also monitoring the recovery work zone on PCH between Carbon Beach Terrace and Sunset Boulevard. This stretch of highway also saw minor impacts from Monday’s storms. One lane of northbound PCH remains closed for about a quarter-mile at two locations: north of Porto Marina Way and south of Topanga Canyon Boulevard.
Caltrans District 7 will share updates as soon as they are available via news release and on its social media pages, Instagram, X and Facebook Motorists can check current traffic conditions on the Caltrans Quickmap.
This stretch of SR-27 is an active work zone for ongoing recovery efforts from the Palisades Fire and winter storms. It is typically closed to the public from midnight to 5 a.m. daily.
