Traffic Controls for Slope Restoration to Start Thursday on State Route 27 Near Circle Trail in Topanga

One-lane traffic between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays will last 1-2 weeks

TOPANGA – Caltrans crews will begin slope restoration work Thursday south of Circle Trail on Topanga Canyon Boulevard/State Route 27 (SR-27) in the unincorporated Los Angeles community of Topanga. This will reduce traffic to one lane for use by both directions of travel for less than one-tenth of a mile with flaggers directing alternating traffic.

The one-lane traffic controls will be in place during off-peak hours, from as early as 9 a.m. to as late as 3 p.m. weekdays starting Thursday, April 16, for about 1 to 2 weeks. The work zone will be less than 500 feet starting at Circle Trail and heading south. Motorists will have access to Circle Trail.

This work is to repair eroded slopes along Topanga Creek, which were damaged in February 2024 rainstorms. The project was paused following the Palisades Fire.

Work is subject to change due to weather or operational conditions. Motorists can check current traffic conditions on the Caltrans Quickmap.

Motorists are advised to be alert and remain focused on the road while driving through the canyon stretch of SR-27 to avoid additional delays. Take extra caution, especially around blind curves in case of stalled traffic. Fines can be doubled in a work zone.
