Motorists will see prep work, including fence installation, the week of June 8
TOPANGA – Construction on the Topanga Canyon Boulevard/State Route 27 Pavement Rehabilitation project will resume June 15 to complete the remaining roughly 10 miles of paving work in Topanga Canyon.
Residents and motorists can expect working hours to take place between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. weekdays. Crews will begin repaving work north of Happy Trail near Café on 27 and will work south to pave the southbound lane down to State Route 1/Pacific Coast Highway (PCH). Then, workers will pave the northbound lane from PCH back up north to just north of Happy Trail.
Crews will skip pavement rehabilitation at about mile marker 2.5, where an 84-inch reinforced concrete pipe still needs to be installed as part of recovery work from the 2025 Palisades Fire. That section will be paved after the pipe is installed.
Caltrans will share specific schedules and traffic impacts in advance.
Between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily Monday, June 8, through Thursday, June 11, crews will install environmentally sensitive area (ESA) fencing along SR-27 between Santa Maria Road and 1,000 feet south of Cuesta Cala Road and at the concrete bridge over Topanga Creek. ESA fence installation will not require any lane closures.
This specialty, orange-colored fencing creates a boundary around sensitive biologic areas to avoid disruptions during construction. It will be in place until the project is complete.
This past April, crews completed the San Fernando Valley section of the roughly 18-mile pavement rehabilitation project, which began in February 2024 in Chatsworth. Crews paused work between Mulholland Drive and PCH due to the Palisades Fire recovery work. Some pavement rehabilitation work in Topanga restarted in April.
Work schedules are subject to change due to roadway conditions, progress on the Caltrans emergency project, utility work happening on SR-27 and other conditions.
Construction on the entire project is expected to be completed in summer 2027.
