Topanga Canyon Boulevard Work Zone Reopens Following Rainstorms

SR-27 from PCH to Grand View Drive reopened to previous conditions but remains an active work zone

TOPANGA – Caltrans crews on Monday reopened the 3.6-mile stretch of Topanga Canyon Boulevard/State Route 27 (SR-27) between Pacific Coast Highway and Grand View Drive that closed Friday night due to predicted rainstorms, rockfall and debris flows.

The highway reopened shortly after 11:30 a.m. Monday after workers finished clearing debris flows and rockfall from weekend rainstorms. Caltrans closed the highway just before midnight on Friday night ahead of expected storms and amid safety concerns due to saturated slopes and potential slides, which occurred at multiple locations Saturday and Sunday on the closed stretch of highway.

This stretch of SR-27 is now reopened to the public with previous restrictions. It remains an active work zone for ongoing recovery efforts from the Palisades Fire and winter storms. It is closed from midnight to 5 a.m. daily and has traffic restrictions including a roughly half-mile, one-way traffic control section south of the Topanga town center.

For the safety of workers and one another, motorists must obey the 25-mph speed limit in the work zones, along with any posted signs and traffic controllers. There is no parking, no stopping and no pedestrians allowed in the work zones.

Motorists are advised to be alert and remain focused on the road while driving through this stretch of SR-27 to avoid additional delays. Take extra caution, especially around blind curves in case of stalled traffic ahead of one-way sections. Fines can be doubled in a work zone.
