Topanga Canyon Boulevard Work Zone Reopens Tuesday Following Rainstorms

SR-27 from PCH to Grand View Drive reopened to previous conditions by noon Tuesday

LOS ANGELES – Caltrans crews on Tuesday reopened the 3.6-mile stretch of Topanga Canyon Boulevard/State Route 27 (SR-27) between Pacific Coast Highway and Grand View Drive that closed Thursday night due to rainstorms, rockfall and debris flows.

The highway reopened shortly before noon Tuesday after workers cleared mud and debris from Monday night’s additional rainstorms. This stretch of SR-27 is now reopened to the public with previous restrictions. Crews will continue to assess storm impacts.

Caltrans closed the highway at 10 p.m. Thursday ahead of expected strong storms and kept it closed through Monday night’s rain for safety amid concerns of continued storm cells, slides and saturated slopes.

This stretch of SR-27 is an active work zone for ongoing recovery efforts from the Palisades Fire and winter storms. It is currently closed from midnight to 5 a.m. daily and has traffic restrictions including a roughly half-mile, one-way traffic control section south of the Topanga town center.

For the safety of workers and one another, motorists must obey the 25-mph speed limit in the work zones, along with any posted signs and traffic controllers. There is no parking, no stopping and no pedestrians allowed in the work zones.

Motorists are advised to take extra caution while driving SR-27, especially around blind curves in case of stalled traffic ahead of one-way sections, and be alert for workers and slow-moving vehicles. Fines can be doubled in a work zone.
