Topanga Canyon Boulevard Will Remain Closed Monday Morning Due to Potential for More Rain

State Route 27 from Pacific Coast Highway to Grand View Drive saw moderate debris flow and rock falls overnight Saturday

LOS ANGELES – Caltrans crews have determined to keep the stretch of Topanga Canyon Boulevard/State Route 27 (SR-27) between Pacific Coast Highway and Grand View Drive closed through at least noon Monday, Nov. 17, due to predicted rainfall above the debris flow threshold.

Crews made the decision based on the National Weather Service’s Monday forecast, which predicts up to 0.59 inches of rain Monday morning, exceeding the debris flow threshold for this area. Crews are concerned about the stability of some slopes given how wet the hillsides already are.

Caltrans crews evaluating the highway Sunday noted sometime overnight Saturday that heavier debris flows and bigger rockfalls had fallen onto the highway from slopes throughout the work zone. Maintenance crews were working to clear the debris.

Workers are actively monitoring SR-27 and are working to reopen as soon as safely possible when storms have passed and they have cleared all hazards. They are also monitoring the recovery work zone on State Route 1/Pacific Coast Highway, but there are no major impacts at this time.

Caltrans District 7 will continue to share updates via news release and on its social media pages, including Instagram, X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook

Motorists can check current traffic conditions on the Caltrans Quickmap.

This stretch of highway is an active work zone for ongoing recovery efforts from the Palisades Fire and winter storms. It is typically closed to the public from midnight to 5 a.m. daily.
