Oxnard - Caltrans announces the start of a pavement rehabilitation project on State Route 232 (Vineyard Avenue) between US 101 and State Route 118 (Los Angeles Avenue) in Oxnard and the unincorporated Ventura County area of El Rio on Monday, July 14.
The Vineyard Avenue Pavement Project stretches from US 101 to State Route 118 and will replace more than 14 lane miles of pavement to improve ride quality. The project will also make the following improvements:
· Upgrade 37 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant curb ramps
· Install curb ramps at new locations
· Install accessible pedestrian signals and push buttons
· Upgrade more than 650 linear feet of guardrail
· Construct new approach and departure slabs for the US 101/State Route 232 interchange
· Add bicycle lanes
Construction will begin at the US 101/Vineyard Avenue interchange and progress north towards Los Angeles Avenue. Initial work will occur between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. and will include placement of construction signs, utility work and surveying. Daytime lane closures can occur within a few weeks when k-rail is placed in various locations.
The work on Vineyard Avenue will require excavation and resurfacing of the roadway, which will occur during weekday overnights to minimize the impact of lane closures to local traffic and businesses. At least one lane will remain open in each direction at all times during night work.
The total project cost is $30.8 million and is anticipated to be completed in winter of 2026/2027. Caltrans urges motorists to use alternate routes. Please “Be Work Zone Alert” and drive with caution in construction zones. Look for real-time lane closures at the Caltrans Quickmap.
