Overnight connector and ramp closures starting Nov. 5
LOS ANGELES — Caltrans is planning long-term overnight connector and ramp closures at the State Route 2 (SR-2)/Interstate 5 (I-5) interchange in Los Angeles starting Wednesday Nov. 5, for bridge retrofitting. The work will require full closures of connectors overnight for a three-week period starting Nov. 5. Additionally, the northbound SR-2 connector to northbound I-5 and southbound I-5 connector to northbound SR-2 will be reduced to one lane for the duration of the work, which is estimated to be completed by winter 2026/2027.
The closures are subject to change and are scheduled as follows:
Wednesday, Nov. 5 through Wednesday Nov. 26:
- Northbound SR-2 connector to northbound I-5 will be reduced to one lane, with a full closure from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily.
- Southbound SR-2 connector to southbound I-5 reduced to one lane starting at 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., with a full closure from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily.
- Southbound I-5 connector to northbound SR-2 will be reduced to one lane, with a full closure from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily.
Wednesday, Nov. 5 through winter 2026/2027:
- Northbound SR-2 connector to northbound I-5 will be reduced to one lane.
- Southbound I-5 connector to northbound SR-2 will be reduced to one lane.
Message signs will be placed along detour routes to direct traffic. Caltrans encourages motorists to allow extra travel time and to drive with caution in the area.
Due to weather or operational reasons, the schedule is subject to change including the times and dates, the number of closures and other details. The $15.9 million project will seismically retrofit the SR-2/I-5 connector’s bridge and tunnel at the interchange. Nearly 52,000 square feet of bridge/tunnel will be rehabilitated, and 3,200 linear feet of metal-beam guardrail will be replaced. The contractor is Powell Constructors.
