55-Hour Extended Weekend Lane Closures Scheduled for Southbound I-605 in Whittier

Freeway Lanes Will Be Reduced Friday, August 8 to Monday, August 11

 

Whittier - Caltrans will be conducting a 55-hour extended weekend lane closure operation on southbound Interstate 605 (I-605) from Whittier Boulevard to the Washington Boulevard in the city of Whittier for paving work.

 

There will be no full freeway closures associated with this paving operation. The lane closures on southbound I-605 are as follows:

 

Friday, August 8 to Monday, August 11:

 

·      Southbound I-605 reduced to one lane from 10 p.m. Friday to 4:01 a.m. Saturday.

·      Southbound I-605 reduced to two lanes from 4:01 a.m. Saturday to 11 p.m. Sunday.

·      Southbound I-605 reduced to one lane from 11 p.m. Sunday to 5:01 a.m. Monday.

·      All southbound lanes will reopen to the public by 5:01 a.m. Monday.

·      The eastbound and westbound Whittier Boulevard on-ramps to southbound I-605 will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday.

·      The southbound I-605 Whittier Boulevard off-ramp will remain open 24/7.

·      The southbound I-605 Washington Boulevard (East)/Saragosa Street off-ramp will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday.

 

Ramp traffic will be detoured via local arterial routes during the hours of the ramp closures. See detour map. Caltrans urges motorists to avoid the area during construction and use alternate freeways where possible, including southbound Interstate 110, Interstate 710 and State Route 57.

 

All closures are subject to change. Additional extended weekend closures are expected to be scheduled every two weeks through 2025, excluding holiday weekends.

 

This work is part of the Super 605 freeway corridor projects to rehabilitate I-605 from Long Beach to the San Gabriel Valley. A total of $260 million in construction costs is funded with $238 million from the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), and more than $20.5 million from Senate Bill (SB) 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017
