There will be two full closures of northbound I-405 at the beginning and end of extended weekend lane reductions.
LOS ANGELES — Caltrans announces extended weekend lane reductions along northbound Interstate 405 (I-405) through the Sepulveda Pass. Northbound I-405 will be reduced to two lanes and motorists are strongly encouraged to seek alternate routes and explore public transportation options to reach their destinations. Southbound I-405 will not be impacted by lane reductions.
There will also be two, overnight full closures of northbound I-405 from just south of Ventura Boulevard to U.S. 101 at the beginning and end of extended weekend work. This is necessary to safely restripe the lane markings in the area to conduct pavement replacement. The first full closure will be Saturday, June 6 from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. and the second full closure will be Monday, June 8 from 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m. Detours will be in place for motorists and are outlined below.
Commuters can expect extended weekend lane reductions on the following:
- 10 p.m. Friday, June 5, through 6 a.m. Monday, June 8
Commuters can expect full closures on northbound I-405 between just south of Ventura Blvd. and U.S. 101 on the following:
- Saturday, June 6 from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m.
- Monday, June 8 from 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Motorists traveling along I-405 will experience the following lane reductions, ramp and connector closures:
Northbound I-405
- Reduced to two lanes between just south of Ventura Boulevard and U.S. 101
- Greenleaf Street on-ramp to northbound I-405 closed
- Southbound U.S. 101 connector to northbound I-405 closed
- Northbound I-405 off-ramp to Getty Center Drive closed
Detour Route
- Southbound U.S. 101 to northbound I-405: Travel southbound on I-405 and exit at Ventura Boulevard. Head east on Ventura Boulevard, south on Dickens Street, south on Sepulveda Boulevard to the on-ramp to northbound I-405.
- Detour during full closure using northbound U.S. 101 connector: Take the northbound I-405 connector to northbound U.S. 101 and exit at Hayvenhurst Ave. Then, head north on Hayvenhurst Ave., east on Burbank Blvd. to the northbound I-405 on-ramp
- Detour during full closure using southbound U.S. 101 connector: Take the northbound I-405 connector to southbound U.S. 101 and exit at Van Nuys Blvd. Head north on Van Nuys Blvd., and west on Burbank Blvd. to the on-ramp to northbound I-405
Due to weather or operational reasons, the schedule is subject to change including the times and dates of closures, the number of lanes closed and other details.

This work is part of the I-405 Pavement Rehabilitation Project between the Los Angeles communities of Van Nuys and Westwood along the Sepulveda Pass. This project will apply about $143.7 million toward improving the safety and mobility along I-405 between Van Nuys and Westwood as well as extend the pavement life.
