Freeway Lanes Will Be Reduced Friday, Oct. 17 to Monday, Oct. 20
Whittier - Caltrans announces a 55-hour extended weekend lane reduction on northbound Interstate 605 (I-605) from south of Whittier Boulevard to north of Whittier Boulevard in the city of Whittier for paving work.
There will be no full freeway closures associated with this paving operation. The closures on northbound I-605 are as follows:
Friday, Oct. 17 to Monday, Oct. 20:
Freeway Lanes:
- Northbound I-605 reduced to one lane from 10 p.m. Friday to 4:01 a.m. Saturday.
- Northbound I-605 reduced to two lanes from 4:01 a.m. Saturday to 11 p.m. Sunday.
- Northbound I-605 reduced to one lane from 11 p.m. Sunday to 5:01 a.m. Monday.
- All northbound I-605 lanes will reopen to the public by 5:01 a.m. Monday.
Ramps:
- Northbound I-605 Whittier Boulevard off-ramp closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday.
- Eastbound and westbound Whittier Boulevard on-ramps to northbound I-605 closed from 7 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday.
The next 55-hour extended weekend lane reduction is scheduled for the weekend of Oct. 24, with more to be scheduled through the end of 2025 and into 2026.
The extended weekend lane reductions are from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. Demolition of old freeway lane concrete occurs on Friday nights. On Friday night, Oct. 17 the demolition will occur on northbound I-605 from south of Whittier Boulevard to north of Whittier Boulevard. Residents and businesses located in this area may experience noise, vibrations and dust associated with demolition activities.
All closures are subject to change. Ramp traffic will be detoured via local arterial routes during the hours of the ramp closures. Caltrans urges motorists to avoid the area during construction and use alternate freeways where possible, including northbound Interstate 110, Interstate 710 and State Route 57.
This work is part of the Super 605 freeway corridor projects to rehabilitate I-605 from Long Beach to the San Gabriel Valley. A total of $260 million in construction costs is funded with $238 million from the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), and more than $20.5 million from Senate Bill (SB) 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.
