Los Angeles — Caltrans announces the start of a multimodal pavement project along State Route 2 (SR-2) from West Los Angeles to the Los Angeles community of Echo Park. There will be daytime closures along SR-2 between U.S. 101 and Sunset Boulevard, and between Bundy Drive and Centinela Avenue, from Monday, Oct. 13 through Friday, Oct. 17.
The closures are subject to change and scheduled as follows:
Monday, Oct. 13 through Friday, Oct. 17:
· There will be no parking in either direction of SR-2/Alvarado Street between U.S. 101 and Sunset Boulevard from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
· There will be no parking in either direction of SR-2/Santa Monica Boulevard between Bundy Drive and Centinela Avenue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Two lanes of SR-2 will remain open to traffic in each direction during construction, with a single lane closure of the parking lane to allow for construction activity. During lane closures, driveways to businesses will remain accessible. Motorists and community members may expect shoulder and parking restrictions during construction work on SR-2 in both directions. Signs will be posted in advance of any parking restrictions.
The project will include rehabilitating pavement and installing or modifying concrete bus pads. Additional improvements include upgrading curb ramps and crosswalks, replacing curbs and gutters, upgrading traffic signals and street lighting systems, and installing bicycle racks. Designated bus priority lanes will be added in the first segment of the project near West Los Angeles.
This approximately $70.2 million project is happening along SR-2 from Centinela Avenue in Santa Monica to the SR-2 terminus in Echo Park. The multimodal project is comprised of three segments:
· The first segment is on Santa Monica Boulevard between Centinela Avenue and Interstate 405 in West Los Angeles. (1.4 miles)
· The second segment is on Santa Monica Boulevard between La Brea Avenue and U.S. 101 in Hollywood. (2.1 miles)
· The third segment is on Alvarado Street/Glendale Boulevard between northbound U.S. 101 on/off-ramps and northbound SR-2 terminus in Echo Park. (1.5 miles)
Once complete, the project will extend the pavement life and enhance safety along multiple segments of SR-2 in the city of Los Angeles. About 20 lane miles will be rehabilitated. Construction is anticipated to begin in fall 2025 with an expected completion in fall 2028.
Due to weather or operational reasons, the schedule is subject to change including the times and dates, the number of closures and other details. Residents and businesses located near construction may experience noise, vibrations and dust associated with construction activities. Please visit Quickmap for current road conditions.
