The September work on U.S. 101 and State Route 110 will include closures and detours
Los Angeles – Caltrans crews on Sept. 2 will begin upgrading four bridges on U.S. 101 and State Route 110 (SR-110) near downtown Los Angeles.
Work will start simultaneously at the following bridges:
• US 101 at Alvarado Street
• US 101 at Santa Monica Boulevard
• US 101 at First Street
• State Route 110 (Arroyo Seco Parkway) Avenue 60 on-/off-ramps
Motorists will notice construction activities near these bridges starting Sept. 2. Lane reductions are expected at all four bridges. Long-term closures of the on-ramp followed by the off-ramp will be required at the SR-110 Avenue 60 location.
Caltrans will announce lane reductions when they are finalized and give two weeks' notice for the long-term ramp closures. Caltrans will also notify motorists and pedestrians of detours and alternate routes. Motorists are advised to plan ahead, use caution near construction zones and expect potential delays. For real-time updates and additional information, please visit the Caltrans Quickmap.
As part of this project, crews will also update signage, streetlights and traffic signals at bridge locations. The Santa Monica and Alvarado Street bridges will include updated sidewalks and ADA facilities.
The $15.8 million project is necessary to upgrade existing bridge rails to current standards and increase the durability and longevity of each structure. The timeline for all work to be completed is through fall 2027.
Caltrans reminds motorists to "Be Work Zone Alert" and "Slow for the Cone Zone."
