WEST COVINA — The California Department of Transportation announces a 55-hour extended weekend lane closure on eastbound Interstate 10 (I-10) from Pacific Avenue/West Covina Parkway to Sunset Avenue for bridge preservation work on Sunset Avenue Undercrossing in the city of West Covina in Los Angeles County. Eastbound I-10 will be reduced to two lanes between Pacific Avenue/West Covina Parkway to Sunset Avenue from Friday night, Sept. 19 to Monday morning, Sept. 22. The HOV lane will remain open. Work involves methacrylate deck treatment to seal cracks, polyester concrete overlays to extend bridge deck life, spalls repair, joint seal replacement, and applying pavement markings.
The closures are subject to change and are scheduled as follows:
· Closure of three lanes on eastbound I-10 from Pacific Avenue/West Covina Parkway to Sunset Avenue from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19 to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22.
· Closure of eastbound I-10 on-ramps at Pacific Avenue/West Covina Parkway for duration of 55-hour weekend closure. Detour signs will be posted.
· Closure of eastbound I-10 off-ramps at Pacific Avenue/West Covina Parkway for duration of 55-hour weekend closure. Detour signs will be posted.
Message signs will be placed along detour routes to direct traffic and alert motorists of upcoming closures. Caltrans encourages motorists to allow extra travel time and to drive with caution in the area. Construction will continue through fall 2026, with multiple 55-hour full weekend ramp and lane closures scheduled for bridge preservation work on I-10.
Due to weather or operational reasons, the schedule is subject to change including the times and dates, the number of closures and other details. Residents and businesses located near construction may experience noise, vibrations and dust associated with construction activities. This work is part of the San Gabriel Valley Bridge Preservation Project to improve bridge health and safety, enhance ride-quality, and extend the service life of 13 bridges across 13.2 miles of I-10, State Route 60 (SR-60) and State Route 71 (SR-71) in Los Angeles County. The work totals $6.9 million. The contractor is J Francis Company.
