LONG BEACH — Caltrans announces a multi-asset project on Interstate 405 (I-405) from the Orange County/Los Angeles County line to I-405/Interstate 110 (I-110) interchange that will include pavement rehabilitation, signs and light improvements, and complete street elements at on and off-ramps. Construction is set to begin Monday, July 27, 2026.
This project includes the following improvements:
- 118 lane miles of concrete pavement rehabilitation
- More than 96,000 square feet of bridge rehabilitation
- Over 800 linear feet of culvert replacement
- 11 crash cushions
- 56,800 linear feet of guardrail and 89 collision severity reductions
- 38 overhead sign structure rehabilitation
- 465 sign panel replacements
- 15 CCTVs
- 1.5 linear miles of fiber optics communication upgrades
- 34 ramp meters
- Upgrades to 95 ADA curb ramps
- Five census stations
- Three changeable message signs
The $115.2 million project to rehabilitate pavement, enhance safety features, and improve pedestrian infrastructure along I-405 is anticipated to be completed in 2031.
The improvements will preserve and extend the life of the existing pavement. Upgrades will be made on lighting to provide more visible and legible signage to commuters, reduce collision severity be replacing outdated safety devices to comply with current standards to improve safety. Landscaping and irrigation will be improved between Lakewood Boulevard and Long Beach Boulevard. These renovation will enhance motorist’s safety and mobility along this stretch of roadway.
Due to weather or operational reasons, the schedule is subject to change including the times and dates , the number of closures and other details.
