Highway 154 Alamo Pintado Creek Pedestrian Bridge Removal

Description

The Alamo Pintado Creek pedestrian bridge spans an active seasonal creek channel. The bridge proposed for removal is located on a segment of the old Highway 154 alignment. The area of direct impact lies entirely within the confines of the State right of way.

Purpose and Need:

The purpose of this project is to eliminate potential risk to the public due to an unstable bridge. The pedestrian bridge is a former highway bridge constructed in 1912 that now serves as pedestrian and equestrian access across Alamo Pintado Creek in Los Olivos. Due to channel degradation, the bridge piles that make up the piers are now heavily exposed, causing the the bridge to sink slowly at its supports. The bridge is considered no longer stable under its own weight.
