State Route 9 Felton Safety Improvements

Project Description

The Felton Safety Improvement Project will construct a sidewalk along the southbound side of State Route 9 from Graham Hill Road to the San Lorenzo Valley Schools Complex. Where possible throughout the project, a sidewalk width of 6 feet will be constructed. Where right of way is constrained, the project will build a minimum 4-foot sidewalk. The project will include a new bus pad at the San Lorenzo Valley Highschool, curb and gutter upgrades, new retaining walls, and widened minimum 4-foot shoulder for cyclists.  The project is currently under construction and is estimated to be complete by August 2027. Winter weather may impact the construction schedule.

Project Benefits

Purpose: The purpose of this project is to improve pedestrian access and safety along the corridor.

Need: Deficiencies in pedestrian access and facilities exist between Graham Hill Road and the San Lorenzo Valley High School. Multiple pedestrian-related collisions have occurred within the most recent 5 years, including 2 fatal collisions.

Funding

This project is being funded in the State Highway Operations and Protection Program (SHOPP) with a total programmed capital cost of $8,494,000 dollars.

Preliminary Project Schedule

  • Advertise: Summer 2025
  • Construction to begin: July 2026
  • Construction to be completed: August 2027
