NORTHERN CLOSURE OF HIGHWAY 1 IN BIG SUR LIFTED,
SOUTHERN CLOSURE FOR PLASKETT FIRE SUPPORT REMAINS IN PLACE

MONTEREY AND SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTIES —As of 6 am Thursday, September 3, the northern closure of Highway 1 in support of Timber Fire operations will be lifted.

The Timber Fire closure from Post Mile 56 just south of Little Sur River to Post Mile 45 just south of Big Sur Post Office will reopen.

The southern closure supporting Plaskett Fire emergency response along Highway 1 remains in place from Pacific Valley at Post Mile 16 to Post Mile 0.0 at the Monterey/San Luis Obispo County line.

Electronic message boards will alert travelers in advance of the southern closure. Avoid any unnecessary travel through the area. Drivers should use US 101 as an alternate route. We want to thank the community and the public for their patience while we continue to support the emergency fire operations.
