FORTY-MILE STRECH OF HIGHWAY 1 IN BIG SUR CLOSED
TO SUPPORT TIMBER AND PLASKETT FIRE OPERATIONS

MONTEREY COUNTY — – As of 4 pm Thursday, August 27, a forty-mile stretch of Highway 1 is closed to support Timber and Plaskett Fire emergency response.

Due to Timber Fire emergency response and the new Plaskett Fire emergency response along the Big Sur coastline, Highway 1 is now closed from Gorda at Post Mile 10.2 to just north of Captain Cooper Elementary at Post Mile 50.1 to facilitate firefighting and evacuation operations.

Electronic message boards will alert travelers in advance of the closure. Avoid any unnecessary travel through the area. Drivers should use US 101 as an alternate route. We want to thank the community and the public for their patience while we continue to support the emergency fire operations.
