US 101 OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSURES AND TRAFFIC SHIFT
SET FOR WELLSONA ROAD SAFETY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY — An ongoing project to construct an undercrossing and frontage road near the intersection of US 101 and Wellsona Road will result in alternating lane closures in both directions of US 101.
Overnight lane closure and traffic switch will take place next Tuesday, April 7, Wednesday, April 8, and Thursday, April 9 from 6 pm to 7 am. One lane will remain open in both directions.
The closure will allow Caltrans crews to remove temporary barriers and install permanent delineation.
Wellsona Road access from US 101 will remain unchanged. Direct access to Wellsona Road (west) will be direct for southbound motorists and remain accessible via detour for northbound motorists. Wellsona Road (east) will remain accessible via detour for southbound motorists and directly accessible via right turn lane northbound motorists.
This project creates a new undercrossing beneath US 101, south of the existing intersection, eliminating the need for motorists to make left turns across traffic on US 101. It includes a 112-foot-long bridge, and a frontage road to connect the undercrossing with Wellsona Road on either side of US 101.
The contractor for this $12.2 million project is CalPortland Construction of Santa Maria, CA.
Project completion is projected for late April 2026.
