The University Avenue Roadside Planting project will improve safety, and aesthetics in the Interstate 80 underpass situated in the City of Berkeley in Alameda County. Planned enhancements will include: greenscaping with a 3-year establishment period for climate-appropriate plantings, landscaping and gateway monument.

SOMA Fifth Street Tree Nursery

San Francisco

Partnering with the City of San Francisco Bureau of Urban Forestry and their non-profit partners, the Fifth Street Tree Nursery project aims to transform a visibly declining parcel of land at the Fifth Street-State Route 80 Interchange into an active tree nursery, education facility with a second parcel designated for a small dog park. Planned enhancements will include: decorative security fencing, public art, driveway access, ground surface prep and activation of electrical and water service.

This proposed art-focused corridor enhancement will include: litter abatement, lighting, greenscaping, transforming drab spaces into public art canvas to discourage graffiti and vandalism. As a side benefit, public murals provide an opportunity for unique experiences, visual storytelling, engage communities and increase overall attractiveness of an otherwise unused space. Other equity-focused amenities will be provided for the surrounding underserved neighborhoods.

Architectural Lighting of Bay Area Portals

This unique project in partnership with Metropolitan Transportation Commission aims to transform Bay Area portals (Posey Tube, Caldecott Tunnel, Yerba Buena Island) by installing architectural lighting of colorful and creative displays that changes with seasonal interest. As a nod to local architecture, motorists will be treated to an eye-catching visual experience while travelling at night.

Oakland Roadside Enhancements

As one of the busiest high-speed corridors in the Bay Area, much-needed enhancements will include: litter abatement, aesthetic designs on the soundwall and concrete barriers, enhanced paving, inert materials, improved landscaping and greenscaping.

San Jose Havana-Midfield Park

In partnership with the City of San Jose, this project will convert an underutilized Caltrans space into a community pocket park that will function as a neighborhood gathering space. Planned enhancements include: litter abatement, playground, greenscaping and landscaping and public murals.

San Jose Almaden Beautification

Partnering with the City of San Jose, the beautification project aims to improve safety and aesthetically enhance the Route 280 underpass corridor by Almaden Boulevard near the city center. Planned enhancements include completing of sidewalk gaps, upgraded curb ramps, greenscaping, Class IV Bikeways and Class II Bike lanes, community garden and safe, secure storage for the unsheltered community.

San Francisco Potrero Hill Gateway

Partnering with San Francisco Department of Public Works, this project aims to improve pedestrian and bicyclist experience by proposing enhancements to include: decorative fencing, slope paving and pedestrian lighting to augment the Portrero Gateway Project. Planned improvements are: widening sidewalks, protected bicycle lanes, retaining walls, planted terraces and decorative paving.

Richmond Art and Light

Serving Richmond’s underserved neighborhoods in the San Pablo Avenue, Barret Avenue and MacDonald Avenue corridors, this project partners with the City of Richmond to improve pedestrian experience. Planned beautification enhancements include: pedestrian scale lighting, decorative paving, fencing, public artwork and slope paving that will vastly improve the public mood and outdoor experience for pedestrians and bicyclists alike.

Fairfield and Suisun Planting

This project will significantly improve travelling experience in the Suisun and Fairfield Route 12 corridor by the following planned aesthetic enhancements: installation of drought/heat-tolerant groundcover, recycled water irrigation, greenscaping with climate-appropriate diverse plantings, community identification and fencing. The project objective envisions this entrance corridor as an aesthetic gateway for visitors and residents alike.

Oakland Enhanced Pedestrian Lighting

Helping to enhance one of the busiest pedestrian, bike and motorist corridors in diverse immigrant and underserved neighborhoods in East Oakland, this project focuses on improving safety and the outdoors experience by installing pedestrian scale lighting and solar-powered litter collection bins.

Vallejo – Bay-Vine Trail

In partnership with the City of Vallejo and Solano County Transportation Authority, this planned project will fund cyclist infrastructure enhancements to the Vallejo - Bay/Vine bike trail project to include: entry monument signing on SR 29 near Enterprise Blvd and SR37 at Broadway Boulevard, installation of a concrete post and rail fence between the bike trail and adjacent Wilson Avenue within state right of way, and enhanced colored pavement at three locations to improve the trail users’ experience.
