As part of the long-term vision to build the Annie & Mary trail from Blue Lake to Arcata, you're invited to join Caltrans at Blue Lake Casino on March 11 for an open house about the Baduwa't portion of the trail connecting Blue Lake and Glendale. The event offers an opportunity to converse directly with Caltrans staff and provide valuable feedback on the proposed improvements.

This project aims to enhance pedestrian and bicyclist safety, accessibility, and overall comfort for Blue Lake residents, the Blue Lake Rancheria, and Glendale. At the open house, attendees will have the chance to explore four potential design options, each offering different features such as lighting, trail width, and equestrian facilities. Two alternative alignments are proposed for the connection: One on the westbound side and the other on the eastbound side of Route 299. The paved trail will be separated from the highway to ensure user safety.

This project marks the second segment of a larger Annie & Mary Trail network designed to link Blue Lake to Arcata. With the first segment already completed in the City of Blue Lake and additional funding secured for a segment in Arcata, this initiative represents a significant step towards realizing a shared vision of a pedestrian, bicycle, and equestrian path connecting our communities.

For nearly a decade, Humboldt County, along with the local non-profit The Friends of the Annie and Mary Trail, has been diligently working towards this goal. We are grateful for the collaboration and support of partners including the City of Blue Lake, the City of Arcata, the Humboldt County Association of Governments, Blue Lake Rancheria, and the Redwood Community Action Agency.
