California Transit Advisory Committee

Overview

The California Transit Advisory Committee (CALTAC) provides strategic input and technical guidance to guide implementation of key Caltrans documents including: Caltrans District Transit Plans, Director's Policy, and subsequent updates or successor documents.

CALTAC members coordinate closely with multiple Caltrans divisions and programs, along with other partner agency staff, and advocates across the state.

The CALTAC charter (PDF) outlines the framework of the California Transit Advisory Committee, as developed and approved by the members of the CALTAC.

Members of the CALTAC should represent partner agency staff and professional advocates in California with experience in planning, designing, maintaining, evaluating and delivering public transit programs and facilities for transit users, and first and last-mile travelers. CALTAC membership will include but are not limited to transit operators, local governments, regional transportation planning agencies, transit advocacy organizations, representatives of local transit advisory committees, community-based organizations, disadvantaged communities, and other affected communities. Member terms are two years. Meetings will occur four times per year on a quarterly basis, or as needed.

History

In 2026, Caltrans created a new California Transit Advisory Committee (CALTAC) made up of external partners to provide regular strategic input and technical guidance on Caltrans' transit efforts.
