California Walk & Bike Technical Advisory Committee

History and Formation

In 2018, Caltrans created a new California Walk and Bike Technical Advisory Committee (CWBTAC) made up of external partners that advise Department staff on technical issues related to implementing active transportation. The new committee replaces the California Bicycle Advisory Committee, which was established in 1992 and provided input to Caltrans on bicycle facilities for several decades.

Caltrans recruited applications for the new committee CWBTAC in May of 2018 and selected applicants representing public agencies and non-profit advocacy organizations with experience in planning, designing, and delivering active transportation programs and/or facilities.

The committee CWBTAC charter (PDF) outlines the framework of the California Walk Bike Technical Advisory Committee, as developed and approved by the 2018-2019 members of CWBTAC.
