The Caltrans Race & Equity Action Plan (REAP)
The Office of Race and Equity is the latest evolution of a multi-year effort within Caltrans to reaffirm our commitment to address the systemic racial inequities that exist within the public transportation sector. In 2018, Caltrans sent a cohort of headquarters staff to participate in the State's growing involvement with the Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE), which is a large, nationwide network of government advocates working to achieve racial equity and equal opportunities for all.
2022 REAP Update
The 2019 REAP update to the 2022 REAP will be a living document incorporating the Caltrans Districts and several HQ Divisions actions. The Caltrans Office of Race and Equity, Equal Employment Opportunity Program (EEOP), and Office of Civil Rights (OCR) worked to organize the new actions into our guiding four P's:
- People
- People
- Programs and Projects
- Partnerships, and Planets;
And align with our Caltrans Strategic Plan Goals:
- Safety first
- Cultivate excellence
- Enhance and connect the multimodal transportation network
- Strengthen stewardship and drive efficiency
- Lead climate action
- Advance equity and livability in all communities
There are similar themes across the department that include equitable engagement, equity metrics, task forces and working groups, and policy development. And as 2022 unfolds, we are increasing and shoring up our strategic coordinated efforts to streamline our equity actions and commitments.
