Chief of Staff to the PMP Deputy Director
Abby Jackson serves as Chief of Staff to PMP Deputy Director Jeanie Ward-Waller. In this role as Chief of Staff, Abby supports many strategic efforts in Planning & Modal Programs that are helping to set the vision for the future transportation system.
Abby comes from the Caltrans Sustainability Program, where she focused on climate action and vehicle miles travel (VMT) reduction to support State climate, equity and housing goals. Abby has supported the SB 743 Team and worked on the SMP Climate Action Goal and the California Freight Mobility Plan 2020 in DoTP's Freight branch. She has facilitated the Caltrans Pricing Workgroup and the District Sustainability Representatives, and coordinated California's participation in the international Transportation Decarbonization Alliance, among other transportation planning and policy-related duties.
Prior to joining Caltrans, Abby worked as a regional economic development planner working to advance the zero emission vehicle sector in greater Sacramento and as a consultant (LSA) on the Fresno-to-Bakersfield section of California High Speed Rail Project conducting CEQA/NEPA and GIS analyses. In her home region of the Midwest, Abby was Project Manager of the social entrepreneurship-focused Building Food Justice in South Madison partnership, worked at the State of Wisconsin's Bureau of Public Health on active transportation and health equity policy, as a Sustainability Staffer for the City of Monona, WI, and on comprehensive and open space planning at a Chicago-based urban planning firm.
Abby received her Master of Science degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Bachelor of Arts from UW-Madison in international studies of the global commons with certificates in environmental studies and European studies.
