Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Program

Background:

In November 2021, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), was passed into law.  The passage of IIJA included funding for the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant program.  The SS4A program provides funding to local agency initiatives that prevent transit related deaths and serious injuries on roads and streets. 

Funding for the program is distributed competitively.  Below are links to the latest Notice of Funding
Opportunity (NOFO):

Eligible applicants for SS4A program funds include:
  • Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs)
  • Regional Transportation Planning Associations (RTPAs)
  • Local Agencies
  • Tribes
There are two SS4A program grant types:
  1. Action Plan grants
  2. Implementation grants

LETTERS OF SUPPORT

LETTERS OF SUPPORT ARE DUE MAY 19, 2023

Letters of Support (LOS) are provided to local agencies and partners by Caltrans for inclusion in their project application packages for competitive grant programs. Office of Strategic Investment Planning (OSIP) is responsible for submitting LOS Request Packages to the Director for various state and federal grant programs. Templates are made available to help project applicants develop cover letters and LOSs for inclusion in LOS Request Packages.
