Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program
Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program (TIRCP) was created by Senate Bill 862 (Chapter 36, Statutes 2014) and modified by SB 9 (Chapter 710, Statutes of 2015) to provide grants from the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) to support new public transportation projects intended to fund transformative rail and transit improvements throughout the state.
Since 2015, California Transportation Agency (CalSTA) has provided more than $11.5 billion in funding to 153 projects, funded primarily from Cap-and-Trade program proceeds, Senate Bill 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, and the General Fund. Projects receiving funding come from all corners of the state.
- TIRCP awarded 151 projects for nearly $10.9B through cycle seven (7) via the competitive process.
- Senate Bill 132 received $400M and supports the ACE Merced Extension project.
- Assembly Bill 180 received $300M to help San Dieguito to Sorrento Vally Track and Realignment project using TIRCP funds.
