The American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) honored Los Angeles Times Reporter Thomas Curwen as runner up in the National Media Award for advancing roadway safety, as nominated by Caltrans District 7. Curwen was one of two runner ups for the ATSSA award, along with Roz Varon from WLS-7 in Chicago.

The top winner was Shannon Deskins from East Kentucky Broadcasting. Deskins received her award during ATSSA’s Annual Convention and Traffic Expo on Feb. 12 in Phoenix. The winner and the runner ups were included in a national press release. ATSSA provided a plaque for Caltrans to present to Curwen in Los Angeles.

Thomas Curwen has won many awards for his work. He was among a team of Times reporters who won a Pulitzer Prize for their work covering the 2015 terrorist attack in San Bernardino.
