Shoshone Drainage Project
The purpose of the Shoshone Drainage project is to replace existing pipe culverts with larger concrete box culverts. The pipe culverts have exceeded their recommended design life and are in a state of disrepair. Sediments and debris are washed down the Amargosa River Channel where they clog the culverts, causing water to pool and then flow over the top of State Route 178. Water overtopping events are occurring twice per year, on average, and result in closures of the highway. The proposed concrete box culverts would replace the deficient pipe culverts and provide greater capacity to carry water under the highway.
