SR-91 Pavement Rehab Riverside
SR-91 Pavement Rehabilitation Riverside
RIVERSIDE – Caltrans continues a pavement rehabilitation project in the City of Riverside on State Route 91 (SR-91). Project work began February 2026 from just west of Van Buren Boulevard to just east of Madison Street. This $31M project will extend pavement life by replacing outside lanes in both directions, repairing deteriorated concrete slabs, overlaying ramps and various upgrades to signs, guardrail and more. This project is funded through Senate Bill (SB) 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017. Construction is expected to be completed in summer 2027.
Work activity will occur during day and night hours. Occasional weekend and extended 55-hour closures will occur as needed.
From Monday, March 16 to Friday, March 20, drivers should anticipate delays from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. due to upcoming lane and ramp closures for shoulder operations. This work concludes early Saturday morning.
Work locations are as follows:
- East-bound (EB) and west-bound (WB) SR-91 approximately Tyler St. to Madison St. middle lane, right lane and auxiliary lanes. Lane closures will alternate.
- WB and EB Van Buren Blvd. ramps. No consecutive ramps will be closed.
Drivers are reminded to proceed cautiously through the work zone and follow indicated signage for the safety of crews and other drivers. The construction schedule is subject to material and equipment availability and weather conditions.
Residents and businesses, please note that 55-hour closures of mainline lanes and ramps will be required to perform project activities. Further information will be provided about planned closures. Detours and delay times are expected. Plan accordingly! We appreciate your patience as we work to improve infrastructure on this important corridor.
