SR-74 Menifee Hemet Pavement Rehab Broadband Safety Project

State Route 74 Pavement Rehabilitation, Broadband and Safety Work between Menifee and Hemet

RIVERSIDE, CA – Caltrans has started work on a $17.9 million pavement rehabilitation broadband and safety project on State Route 74 (SR-74). This work is funded through Senate Bill (SB) 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.

The project will improve road conditions with broadband connectivity and safety, by strengthening the travel way with new rubberized hot mix asphalt, installing fiber optic cables, improving crosswalks, upgrading bus pads, synchronizing traffic signals, and upgrading curb ramps to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards to improve access for those with disabilities as part of Complete Streets elements. These elements aim to enhance safe accessibility and produce a smoother surface for all roadway users.

Constructions signs have been placed in the project zone to make the traveling public aware of the crews in the area. Work operations are on State Route 74 between Menifee and Hemet. The project is expected to be completed by winter 2026. All work schedule and timelines are dependent on weather conditions and the availability of materials.

Weekly Work Schedule:

Daytime work activities with multiple alternating lane closures, shoulder closures, and pedestrian walkway closures at both eastbound and westbound SR-74 between Menifee and Hemet from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The work activities will include upgrading pedestrian curb ramps on SR-74 and removing old guardrail and installing new concrete barriers on westbound SR-74 at McKinley St. Potholing for utility location, installing fiber optic cables, and synchronizing traffic signals will occur on SR-74 between Bonnie Dr. and Winchester Rd. throughout the week. Closures are dependent on contractors receiving proper materials for each job function. They can be changed or canceled at any time. Weather permitting.

What to Expect:

Expect traffic delays due to alternating lane closures and shoulder closures on both eastbound and westbound SR-74 during construction. Traffic cones and control devices will be in place to separate work areas from traffic. Signage will be placed on the state route to alert drivers of upcoming work zones. Commuter, public transportation, and pedestrian access remain as work requires temporary lane closures and shoulder closures at various points along the route. Plan-ahead and please be mindful of work area signage as law enforcement will enforce applicable laws and regulations. Please proceed cautiously as work vehicles and crews may move in and out of shoulder areas.
