SR 74 Lane Widening Safety Project

March 2026

Riverside, CA – Construction work has started on State Route (SR) 74 near the City of Lake Elsinore for a lane widening and safety features project. This is a $96.1M project to widen lanes and shoulders and add safety features, from just west of Monte Vista St. to Grand Ave. on Ortega Highway. Traffic delays are expected during construction activity which requires nightly flagging with lane closures and day work as needed. Additionally weekend operations may require extended closures (including 55-hour full route closures) to perform work activities.

Daytime flagging operations from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Weeknight nightly road closures continue from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. between at Monte Vista Street, west of El Cariso Camp Ground Road to Grand Avenue in Lake Elsinore. The nightly closures are needed due to the narrow two-lane configuration of Ortega Highway and limited shoulder width.

A 55 hour full weekend closure is scheduled from March 13 through March 16. Flagging will occur from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. A full road closure will start Friday, March 13 at 10:00 p.m. through March 16 at 4:00 a.m. resident access only will be permitted via pilot car. Expect delays! No through access between Orange County and Lake Elsinore. Closure work limits are South Main Divide to Grand Ave.
