SR-38 Redlands Pavement Rehabilitation Project
State Route 38 Redlands Pavement Rehabilitation and Safety Upgrades
SAN BERNARDINO – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the commencement of a $10.4 million pavement rehabilitation and safety project on State Route 38, aimed at improving road safety and overall driving conditions.
This initiative will enhance pedestrian safety and roadway infrastructure along SR-38 in Redlands. Project activities include upgrading curb ramps, improving sidewalks and pavement, installing new traffic signals, and rehabilitating travel lanes and shoulders through milling and overlay procedures.
Construction will occur at several locations along State Route 38 in Redlands, including from Interstate 10 to Occidental Drive; Orange Street to Pearl Avenue; Eureka Street to Interstate 10; and along Lugonia Avenue.
Key enhancements include:
- Upgrading of 73 curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards
- Installing 8 new bus pads
- Adding Class I bike lanes
- Improving sidewalks
- Installing new traffic signal poles
- Upgrading pedestrian signals for accessibility
Anticipated impacts include temporary sidewalk, lane, and shoulder closures. Work zones will be clearly marked with cones, signs, and/or K-rail barriers. Lane reductions and detours may be implemented as needed.
Traffic impacts may include lane closures and detours. Motorists should follow posted signage and detour instructions. Construction is expected to begin in May 2026, with completion anticipated in late fall 2027.
Work activity will occur during night hours. Occasional day and weekend closures will occur as needed.
From Monday to Friday drivers should anticipate delays from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
Drivers are reminded to proceed cautiously through the work zone and follow indicated signage for the safety of crews and other drivers. The construction schedule is subject to material and equipment availability and weather conditions.
