Interstate 215 Pavement Repair

I-215 Pavement Repairs

Riverside County – Smoother pavement and safer driving conditions await travelers when a major pavement rehabilitation project on Interstate 215 is completed. Work crews are scheduled to begin project operations on October 14, 2024 Commuters will experience slowdowns and road closures until fall 2026 on Interstate 215 as repair work on the 6.2 mile stretch of roadway will occur on both the northbound and southbound directions between San Jacinto River Bridge and the Ramona Expressway in Perris.

This $27.5 million Roadway Improvement Project is funded through Senate Bill (SB) 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017. The project will refurbish the existing roads with new pavement, enhance safety, and improve accessibility on the well-traveled thoroughfare in Riverside County.

The work will occur weekly, from Monday to Friday. Day work will take place from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with night work scheduled from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

Daytime work will require shoulder closures at various locations along I-215. Night work will feature alternating lane closures in both directions. While commuter access will remain open, drivers should expect potential delays. Upcoming ramp and mainline closures during night operations are set to begin in November. This project is anticipated to be completed in fall 2026.

“The pavement rehabilitation project will help improve safety, ride quality, reduced traffic disruption, and extend pavement life, this is a meaningful investment to a growing region,” said Catalino Pining, Caltrans District 8 Director.

Road users are reminded to reduce speed in and around the work zone and be advised that weather and other factors may affect the construction schedule.
