Pearblossom Highway Pavement Rehabilitation and Pedestrian Upgrade Project

The Project

Caltrans is repairing the pavement on Pearblossom Highway State Route 138 from Avenue S in the City of Palmdale to 165th Street East in Llano. Construction will be performed daily Monday through Friday 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in order to minimize traffic impacts.

Background

SR-138 is a major thoroughfare, serving commuters between Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties. As a result of heavy use, the road has experienced extensive wear. SR-138 is being rehabilitated in both directions, between Avenue S and 165th Street East. Along with road pavement work, traffic loops installation and striping, existing guardrails, crash cushions, drainage grates and dikes will be installed or upgraded. Crosswalks and curbs at intersections will be upgraded to current ADA standards within the project’s boundaries. Once the work is completed in 2015, the new surface will provide a smoother, safer drive for motorists, reduce time required for maintenance and minimize the need for further lane closures.

Benefits

This project will preserve and extend the life of the existing pavement, improve the ride quality, enhance safety and upgrade sidewalk curbs to current ADA requirements.

Schedule

Construction began late Summer 2014, and has an anticipated completion of Summer, 2015.

Cost

Cost is estimated at $7.1 million. Local businesses will remain open throughout the duration of construction.
