Caltrans to Begin Overnight Pavement Work on Harry Bridges Blvd in Wilmington
WILMINGTON ― Caltrans (District 7) will implement overnight single-lane closures on Harry Bridges Boulevard between North Figueroa Street and Alameda Street in Wilmington beginning Monday, June 29. Closures will occur nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday night through Saturday morning, allowing crews to resurface the roadway.
Traffic flow will be maintained in both directions of Harry Bridges Boulevard during the closures. This work will affect one direction of travel per closure and be completed prior to the start of the full closure of the Vincent Thomas Bridge, which is scheduled to begin on November 1, 2026.
Harry Bridges Boulevard is one of several local roads that will receive improvements through the deck replacement project, as they will serve as part of the designated detour route for the 16-month closure of the Vincent Thomas Bridge.
This work is part of the Vincent Thomas Bridge Deck Replacement Project. A critical infrastructure project totaling $752.8 million, the deck replacement will require partial and full closures of the bridge over the next two years. More information is available at the project website. Skanska-CEC Joint Venture is the general contractor for the project.
Due to weather or operational factors, the schedule is subject to change, including dates and times, the number of closures, and other details. Motorists should expect delays when utilizing the Vincent Thomas Bridge and use Caltrans Quickmap to review current traffic conditions before traveling. Caltrans reminds drivers to exercise increased caution near the closure and Slow for the Cone Zone.
