FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Storm Damage Repairs Continue on Two Sections of

Angeles Crest Highway

Angeles National Forest- The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces storm damage repairs to two segments of State Route 2 (Angeles Crest Highway, SR-2) in Angeles National Forest will continue with highway closures in place.

Segment 1:

The section of SR-2 from just north of Mt. Wilson Red Box Road to just south of Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road has been closed since March of 2023. This segment may remain closed through July to complete repairs to a slope drapery protection system.

The detour to access Angeles Crest Highway north of Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road has been Angeles Crest Highway to Angeles Forest Highway to Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road back to Angeles Crest Highway. However, Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road is owned and maintained by the County of Los Angeles. Check https://dpw.lacounty.gov/roadclosures/ for road closures and lane restrictions before using Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road as a detour route.

Segment 2:

The section of SR-2 from Islip Saddle to Vincent Gulch has been closed since November of 2022. Work here was discontinued over the winter due to hazardous road conditions. Work will resume after Memorial Day weekend and includes construction of retaining walls and slope repair at two locations within the closure. This section is expected to remain closed into fall.

Caltrans appreciates the patience and cooperation of the public as we continue to repair Angeles Crest Highway and make it safe and accessible to the public. Go to https://twitter.com/CaltransDist7 for updates.
