Closures Begin October 2025 Between New Los Angeles Avenue and Princeton Avenue
Ventura County – Caltrans announces overnight full freeway closures on State Route 118 (SR-118) between New Los Angeles Avenue and Princeton Avenue in Ventura County as part of a project to install suicide prevention systems along the Arroyo Simi Overhead Bridge. Beginning October 2025, SR-118 will have five full freeway closures through February for construction during overnight hours.
OVERNIGHT FREEWAY CLOSURE SCHEDULE
The eastbound SR-118 (New Los Angeles Ave to Princeton Ave) and westbound SR-118 (Princeton Ave to New Los Angeles Ave) closure schedule is as follows:
· Westbound SR-118 fully closed from 10 p.m. Tuesday, October 14 to 5 a.m. Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
· Westbound SR-118 fully closed from 10 p.m. Wednesday, November 5 to 5 a.m. Thursday, November 6, 2025.
· Eastbound SR-118 fully closed from 11 p.m. Friday, December 5 to 7 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2025.
· Eastbound SR-118 fully closed from 10 p.m. Monday, January 12 to 5 a.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2026.
· Eastbound SR-118 fully closed from 10 p.m. Wednesday, February 4 to 5 a.m. Thursday, February 5, 2026.
On- and off-ramps:
- New Los Angeles Avenue on-ramp to eastbound SR-118 will be closed during the hours listed above.
- Princeton Avenue on-ramp to westbound SR-118 will be closed during the hours listed above.
All closures are subject to change. Motorists will be detoured via local routes during these closures. See detour details below.
DETOUR INFORMATION
Eastbound SR-118 Detour:
- Exit at New Los Angeles Avenue off-ramp
- Travel west on New Los Angeles Avenue
- Turn north on Spring Road
- Turn east on Princeton Avenue
- Re-enter eastbound SR-118 at the Princeton Avenue on-ramp
Westbound SR-118 Detour:
- Exit at Princeton Avenue off-ramp
- Travel south and west on Princeton Avenue
- Turn south on Spring Road
- Turn east on New Los Angeles Avenue
- Reconnect to southbound Route 23
All other construction activity will take place during daytime work hours. No traffic impacts are expected during daytime construction.
Ramp traffic will be detoured during the hours of the closures. Caltrans urges motorists to avoid the area during construction and use alternate routes where possible, including U.S. 101, SR-23, and I-5.
This safety project will construct new suicide deterrent systems on both the northbound and southbound directions of SR-118, spanning the Arroyo Simi Overhead in the city of Moorpark. In collaboration with the city of Moorpark and surrounding Ventura County communities, Caltrans initiated planning and design of permanent preventative infrastructure.
