Traffic will be detoured via local arterial routes during the hours of the full freeway closure. Please refer to attached detour map / flyer. This section of I-605 carries more than a quarter of a million vehicles per day on average. Caltrans urges motorists to
avoid the area during construction and use alternate freeways where possible, including southbound I-110, I-710 and State Route 57.
Please drive through the construction zone with extreme caution and obey speed limits as we improve your freeway.
Fourteen more extended weekend closures are scheduled in conjunction with this segment of the Super 605 freeway corridor improvement project, sometimes over consecutive weekends and extending into 2025.
Dates for those closures are not available, yet. Regularly scheduled overnight lane closures for two other segments will be distributed in separate news releases.
This work is part of the Super 605 freeway corridor projects to rehabilitate I-605 from Long Beach to the San Gabriel Valley. A total of $260 million in construction costs is funded with $238 million from the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), and more than $20.5 million from Senate Bill (SB) 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.
The contractors are CA Rasmussen Inc., Vanguard Construction Inc., Peterson Chase General Engineering Construction, Inc., and Meyers & Sons Construction. Caltrans reminds drivers to “Be Work Zone Alert” and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.” Real-time closures at Caltrans QuickMap.
