Southbound I-605 Extended Weekend Lane Closures Scheduled December 13 to December 16
13 More Extended Weekend Lane Closures Planned
Los Angeles County: Caltrans (District 7) will be conducting a fifth 55-hour extended weekend lane closure operation on southbound Interstate 605 (I-605) between the I-5 in Downey and Firestone Boulevard in Norwalk for paving the weekend of Friday night, December 13 to Monday morning, December 16. There will be full southbound freeway closures Friday night and Sunday night. During the remainder of the weekend there will only be lane reductions. The closures are subject to change and are scheduled as follows:
On southbound I-605 from I-5 to Firestone Boulevard:
·All southbound lanes will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, December 13 to 4:01 a.m. Saturday morning, December 14 to place k-rail and temporary striping.
·Two southbound lanes will be open to traffic from 4:01 a.m. Saturday, December 14 to 11 p.m. Sunday, December 15.
·All southbound lanes will be closed again from 11 p.m. Sunday, December 15 to 5:01 a.m. Monday, December 16 to remove k-rail and restripe the freeway.
·All southbound lanes will reopen to the public by 5:01 a.m. on Monday, December 16.
·The northbound & southbound I-5 connectors to southbound I-605 will be closed starting as early as 8 p.m. Friday, December 13 to 5:01 a.m. Monday, December 16.
·The Telegraph Road on-ramp to southbound I-605 will be closed starting as early as 8 p.m. Friday, December 13 to 6:01 a.m. Monday, December 16.
·The Florence Avenue on- and off-ramps at southbound I-605 will be closed starting as early as 8 p.m. Friday, December 13 to 6:01 a.m. Monday, December 16.
Traffic will be detoured via local arterial routes during the hours of the full freeway closure. Please refer to attached detour map / flyer. This section of I-605 carries more than a quarter of a million vehicles per day on average. Caltrans urges motorists to
avoid the area during construction and use alternate freeways where possible, including southbound I-110, I-710 and State Route 57.
Please drive through the construction zone with extreme caution and obey speed limits as we improve your freeway.
Thirteen more extended weekend closures are scheduled in conjunction with this segment of the Super 605 freeway corridor improvement project, sometimes over consecutive weekends and extending into 2025. Dates for future extended weekend closures are not available, yet.
Regularly scheduled overnight lane closures for all three segments of Super 605 will be distributed in separate news releases.
This work is part of the Super 605 freeway corridor projects to rehabilitate I-605 from Long Beach to the San Gabriel Valley. A total of $260 million in construction costs is funded with $238 million from the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), and more than $20.5 million from Senate Bill (SB) 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.
