Highway 101 San Miguel Rehabilitation Project
Project Description
This project will rehabilitate and upgrade eight miles of U.S. Highway 101 from just south of San Marcos Creek Bridge in San Luis Obispo County to just south of the East Garrison overcrossing in Monterey County.
During construction of this project, bicycle traffic will be detoured while the highway is temporarily closed to bicycles. The temporary closure to bicyclists is necessary for safety given the high speed vehicular traffic, the reduction of available travel lanes from two to one in each direction, presence of narrow bridges, the reduction of shoulder widths due to temporary concrete barriers, and crossover detouring of traffic in both directions.
The purpose of the project is to prevent further deterioration of the pavement and reduce the cost of future maintenance, while upgrading the facility to current Caltrans standards.
