Interstate 280 Paving Project
Description
In San Jose, on both the southbound and northbound directions of Interstate 280 (I-280) from Bird Avenue to the US 101/Interstate 680 connector ramp in San Jose, Santa Clara County. Rehabilitate pavement, upgrade facilities to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, rehabilitate drainage systems, and upgrade guardrail and Transportation Management System (TMS) elements.
This project will replace the existing approaches and install new approach slabs at three bridges within the project limits, replace and install additional Midwest Guardrail System (MGS), and upgrade existing curb ramps to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
Purpose & Need
The purpose of this project is to preserve and extend the life of the existing pavement, and to strengthen the base and subbase soils of three locations with pavement settlement. The Pavement Condition Summary reports that the existing pavement exhibits overall minor pavement distress and poor ride quality. Storm Damage Investigation reports areas of pavement settlement and progressive pavement cracking.
